2022 Cyber OSPAs Winners’ Summaries

Outstanding Chief Information Security Officer
Dawn Marie Hutchinson – BAT

In the last few years, the number of touchpoints BAT has with the external world has quadrupled and is set to continue to rise exponentially as its New Categories business grows, impacting every single area of its Regionally driven federated business. 

Historically, BAT did not have ecommerce, retail, smart manufacturing nor connected devices and thus the very fabric of the company is changing dramatically as an ever more complex and dynamic cyber security threat evolves. As the CISO, Dawn Marie has delivered an empowered, business focused,  leading-edge, continuously evolving cyber capability that protects and meets BAT’s needs as its business model changes – moving ever further into the world of smart consumer devices and a complex connected product landscape.

The judges felt that Dawn showed strong industry engagement, demonstrated wider reach and influence in the industry. They said that the transformation of security culture towards ‘yes’, is great step forward in large organisation.

Outstanding Cyber Security Professional
Darren Argyle – Standard Chartered Bank

Darren Argyle (CISM, CISSP) is an accomplished executive with close to 20 years international cyber risk and security experience. He is currently Group Chief Information Security Risk Officer at Standard Chartered Bank, based in Singapore with a global scope. Darren also serves as a volunteer on the executive advisory board for cyber at Australia’s Deakin University.

He is the former Group Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Qantas Airlines in Australia and the former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at IHS Markit, a global FinTech headquartered in the UK. He has also held various senior international cyber security leadership roles at Symantec and IBM.

In 2016, Darren was featured on the front cover of SC Magazine (an award-winning cybersecurity media publication) and was named in the top 100 Chief Information Security Officers globally in 2017. In 2018 he co-founded Cyber Leadership Institute, which delivers executive cyber leadership programs to support the next generation of cyber leaders and he remains the chairman.

The judges commented that Darren’s commitment to engaging with and educating the SCB board, leadership team and staff (including a focus on diversity), in a vernacular that they understand, is commendable. 

Outstanding Cyber Security Team
Security Policy Team – Lloyds Banking Group

The Security Policy Team has set itself apart through building close working relationships with the wider Security Function and Business as a whole. The approach to delivering the right outcomes, Security focussed, but with the needs of Customers, Colleagues and the Business at the heart has made a positive contribution to the cyber security culture of the organisation. By recognising the value of varied experience and need to nurture a growth mindset the team continues to go from strength to strength and will remain a key contributor to the continued success of the organisation.

Judges said the team showed great diversity and had exciting approaches to long-term solutions.

Outstanding Cyber Security Consultant
Antoinette King – Credo Cyber Consulting LLC

Antoinette King, PSP has 21 years of experience in the security industry in the field as a technician and engineer, as well as in operations and sales. Antoinette founded Credo Cyber Consulting LLC in 2020 with the goal of providing her clients a holistic perspective on security, bridging the gap between the physical and cybersecurity domains focusing on data privacy and protection. She is a triple award winner with many certifications to her name and is chair and co-chair for many organisations including: Security Industry Association (SIA), InfraGard and ASIS – ARVP.

Judges felt that Antoinette has engaged with a number of key stakeholders, exercising leadership and adding societal value. 

She has also had significant and dynamic experience across many security industry sectors and had raised awareness with young people and the vulnerable which makes her stand out from the others. 

Outstanding Customer Service Initiative
HSBC Fraud and Cyber Awareness app – HSBC and Martyn Pointer

The HSBC Fraud and Cyber Awareness app which provides free education on fraud and cyber trends was originally Martyn’s idea when he joined HSBC. He then led the development and deployment of the app to UK businesses in 2021, since then he has now expanded the app to a vastly increased audience including UK retail clients and the whole of the Middle East (both businesses and retail users). To date the app has around 20k downloads.
Martyn has driven this whole initiative himself, based on his passion for protecting others and has made the app available to non HSBC customers too.

Judges commented that making their educational app available to HSBC customers and non-customers is commendable, inspired and the initiative is innovative and shows a very positive effect on their customers. They said it is a great resource for individuals and small businesses to reduce financial fraud which is a huge global threat.

Outstanding Cyber Security Partnership
U.S. Embassy in Romania and Romanian Association for Information Security Assurance

The partnership between the U.S. Embassy in Romania and the Romanian Association for Information Security Assurance (RAISA) started as an initiative to strengthen cyber capacity and cybersecurity education. This partnership brought together law enforcement, public institutions, international private companies, universities, and NGOs, all working together to deliver training activities, develop guidelines, and organize conferences to raise awareness, embody the cybersecurity culture, and protect people and institutions from cybercrimes.

Judges felt that they had a strong focus on skills development and education and thus a good preparation for future challenges.

Outstanding Police/Law Enforcement Initiative
Social Media: A Parent’s Guide – Police Scotland


The Cybercrime Prevention team work closely with the Cybercrime unit and partners in the public, private and third sectors to deliver cybercrime prevention advice and online safety guidance.

We liaise with the Scottish Government, National Prevent/Protect Networks and regional crime offices to share best practice, develop our understanding of emerging cyber and digital crime threats, and trends providing the most up to date information for officers, individuals and businesses.

The advice we give to the public is simple to follow and drastically reduces the chances of becoming a victim of cybercrime, making users less vulnerable and allowing them to use the internet safely.

Judges commented that their collaborative approach to working with public, private and third sectors along with their commitment to engaging with all sectors of their communities (and addressing the imperatives, concerns and needs of community members of all ages) is commendable – as is their focus on the issues surrounding risk across the social media spectrum. Their use of interactive story-telling and gamification is both potent and powerful. 

Outstanding Young Cyber Security Professional
Katie Shanahan – Crossword Cybersecurity

Katie is a Managing Consultant at Crossword Cybersecurity and engages with the wider community, connecting people together and elevating diverse voices from Young Professionals to Women in Tech.

In her day job, she has received huge praise for her ability to provide people and business-centric value to clients, as well as bringing different teams together in a way that improves their output and performance.

Katie has founded a faculty of young professionals to share expertise and experience within the Banking and Financial Sector across a wide spectrum of topics including Cyber Security and Governance, Risk, and Regulation. She has co-led the SheLeadsTech London exec, organising and facilitating webinars from Cyber Security careers to Innovative Women in InfoSec.

Judges felt that Katie showed great community engagement and applauded the faculty of young professionals she had founded.

Lifetime Achievement
Barry Coatesworth

Barry has, over 30 years of experience, working with Tech start-ups, FTSE 100 Companies, charities, the UK government, and many other global organizations, leading and improving Security functions and programmes. He has been recognized by various institutes and security bodies for his work with assisting the UK’s Department of Business, Energy, and Industry Strategy on creating the Cyber Essential Scheme for his part on the Industry Advisory Group, and an advisor to the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) on big data, ethics, and privacy.

Judges commented that Barry’s outstanding achievements throughout a distinguished career, as well as the breadth and depth of Barry’s experience, expertise, endeavours and adventures. They were seen as fascinating – equally interesting and inspiring. They went on to say that he is a truly dedicated and passionate person who has worked towards improving cyber security all his life in a generous and ethical manner. Barry has demonstrated a significant dedication and mastery to the field of cybersecurity, and has clearly influenced national security, innovation, and the next generation of cyber leaders in distinct ways.
